It's clever how birds disappear into trees- even leafless trees. All they have to do is find a perch and stay still and the eye- the human eye, anyway- has the greatest difficulty picking them out.
Right now there's a flock of starlings in the trees to the east of the house. I know they're there because they're making a noise like a waterfall, but I can only see them in the moments they take wing. Once they've resettled themselves their slim, crooked bodies become indistinguishable from the slim, crooked twigs around them.
