All Hitler's Fault

Hitler invented motorways (which he called autobahns) and the leaders of all the other countries said, "If that clever Mr Hitler builds motorways it must be the right thing to do so we're going to build some too."

That's probably not exactly what happened- but it's how I imagined it (and there was ample time to imagine things) while we were sitting in a slow-moving queue on the M4 yesterday afternoon.

I also thought, "Suppose all the money we've spent on motorways had been spent on the railways instead... now wouldn't that be dreamy!"
