Another Figurehead

There's a good story attached to this one

The label says-

"This is part of a figurehead that once decorated a Spanish prison hulk, a ship that housed political prisoners, near the island of Fernando Po, West Africa. The head was stolen in 1869 by four junior naval officers from HMS Sirius (a British ship moored nearby), who rowed out in a gale, climbed the ship's cable and sawed it off."

An Event Of Immense Historical Importance- But, No, Not That One

It almost slipped under the radar- what with the sturm und drang of the presidential election- but on the same day that Trump became president the state of California legalized the recreational use of marijuana. On almost any other day this would have been headline news.

The liberal political consensus is falling apart, but so too is the so-called "War on Drugs".

So much change- and all happening at once.

Leonard Cohen RIP

He placed himself a hundred floors below Hank Williams but I think that was unduly modest of him. He was a true poet and wrote lines that scald. It was an interesting life and he sang every part of it. I don't think he's left us, really- just moved to that tower down the track.
