I don't believe in chills- they're things Victorian ladies got through going out onto Ilkley Moor Baht'at"- but all the same I think I may have caught one this morning, running round Paddock Wood in the rain and then not changing my clothes.  We had money to transfer from one account to another (at one point I had over a thousand pounds in notes in my hand- which is surely a first.) Then- and this is why I didn't change- we went for lunch at the Honeymoon Garden. The only other table was occupied by two young girls who turned out to work for Jasmine Care- the outfit we used to employ to look after my mother. We exchanged information. They were half way through their meal when a call came in that one of their clients had taken a fall, so they had their food packed up for them and paid and ran.

The chill came on in the course of the afternoon. I tried to write and read and do a crossword but was too jittery to concentrate on anything. Then that passed- as you can see because I'm writing- and now I'm uncomfortably hot and my skin feels papery. I haven't eaten anything except a small orange- and I think we'll keep things that way. "Feed a cold and starve a fever" is what the matriarchs in my family used to say.
