Merivel: Rose Tremain

This is the sequel or coda to Restoration, so most of the hard work- the world-building- has already been done. It's a lighter book, charming, funny, but with a dying fall.  Merivel, softened by age and now- for all his fleshly weakness- unequivocally a Good Man- is still the most delightful company.

I was going to treat myself to a Guy Fawkes bonfire this afternoon but it wasn't properly laid- just a damp heap of clippings and sweepings- and I couldn't get it to catch.
