Hooray For The Games

I resisted the temptation to rubbish the preparation for the Games (well, mostly: I grumped about the missiles on the tower blocks) and I'm glad I held out, because aren't we having fun? Who knew we Brits were so handy with bicycles and rowing boats? And isn't it nice to have all these cheery new role models? Danny Boyle gave us a bright, encouraging narrative of what it means to be British and the medal winning athletes have stepped forward to embody it. Hooray for Jess Ennis! Hooray for Mo Farrah! Hooray for cheeky Bradley Wiggins with his sideburns and his vodka and tonics!

Murray has been extraordinary. He walked through Djokovic two days ago, and now he's walked through Federer, taking them both in three. Astonishing.
