Yeah, but it's the wrong story.  The real story isn't "Oh my God one of them might sneak over here and harm some of us". The real story is "Lots of us are over there and harming them on a daily basis for no particularly good reason". The real story is about Afghan shepherd boys being killed on the hillsides by US drones and Afghan families murdered in their beds by US soldiers. The real story cannot be told without shame. And there is something shameful too about turning away from the real story and telling an entirely confected one in which we, not they, are the ones under threat.

They let Eric out of hospital. He'd been in a fortnight.

We went shopping yesterday morning, laying in supplies for Dot and Eric as well as ourselves. The crocuses are fading from the verges and the first daffodils are out. It was nice not to have to go to the hospital in the afternoon. The sun was shining so I sat out in the yard and read Rose Macaulay.

Last night Venus and Jupiter were so close together I could image them together through my binoculars. A few nights back I caught them in a near straight line with the waxing moon.  Jupiter on top, Venus in the middle, Moon at the bottom.  That's not something I ever expect to see again.
