Ailz drew attention- gently- to the dustiness of things in general, so I tucked a duster into my back pocket to show willing and now, when I think about it, I can pull it out and give whatever's in front of me a going over. I have these periods when I'm conscious of the need to keep house- and others when I forget about it altogether.

I wrote a letter this morning- not a business letter, not an email, not a note inside a Christmas card, but a real letter on paper (in this case a notelet) beginning "Dear X",  ending "Love, Tony and Ailz,  and with a certain amount of guarded personal information in the middle. How many years is it since I last did that?

There's been a church on the site since Saxon times. The present building is early 16th century, with earlier bits and pieces. A window on the north wall commemorating the archers who died at the battle of Flodden (1513) is reputed to be the world's oldest war memorial.
The wooden spire (1667) is one of only three in the country.

The churchyard was used as a location for the BBC series Life on Mars.
