We got up really early yesterday morning because we understood we had workmen coming. Of course they didn't show . Eventually their supervisor or whoever he was rang up and apologised and said the van had broken down. I don't believe him but, hey, there's always an up-side; I got to see the the sunrise and that's a real rarity. I though of taking its picture but it was thin and watery so I didn't bother.

Carl said he would let us have a printed invitation to his son-in-law's birthday party; he's been saying it for months. Of course he never did. Ailz is upset and annoyed but I'm innured to people not doing what they promise and pleased to have been handed an excuse for not going. Nothing personal; I just hate parties.

I said I would put up the Christmas tree yesterday. Of course I didn't.  Maybe today. My attitude towards Christmas varies from year to year. Some years I've hated it. Last year, what with Joe living here, I put myself out and got into the festive spirit. This year I couldn't care less. Christmas is this big fuss going on somewhere in the middle distance involving the makers of luxury goods, advertisers, shopkeepers, the parents of young children and a few religious people- I don't fall into any of those categories so it's nothing to do with me.

Children need to know.

They need to find out as much as they can as fast as they can in order to arm themselves against the world.

It isn't doing them any favours to thwart their curiosity.

By all means protect them from predators, but protecting them from ideas and images is itself a form of abuse.

Do you really think children are angels? Get real. Have you forgotten everything?

Children are animals.

I was far more depraved at six than I am now.
