Yesterday was a lovely spring day. I went out into the tiny front garden and swept the path on hands and knees with a dustpan and brush. This didn't do my arthritis any good- and I went to bed early with an incipient migraine. This morning I feel rough, but- what else is new?

I promise not to go on and on about my aches and pains. They are not entertaining. But they are a fact about me. They reinforce my natural inclination to turn in upon myself.

I love the Net and I love Live Journal. They allow me to wander about the world without ever going over the front door step. If I'd been told when I was a boy that this technology would be available in my lifetime I'd have been incredulous. It would have seemed as Science fictiony as Dan Dare or Star Trek or Doctor Who.

We live in an age of wonders.

I just needed to know something about medieval armour. I did a quick Google- and there I was on a site that gave me more than I would ever need to know. The most popular form of helmet in the 15th century was known as a bascinet. It took me a couple of minutes to find that out. In the old days I'd have had to go down to the public library (twenty minutes walk away) and search through the shelves and, well, what a waste of time and effort...
