Foraging

I was going round our fields yesterday with the chef from a local gastro pub. It was raining hard so it was a cursory exploration. Even so we found several types of fungi- some edible, some questionably so (including a single fly agaric)-and a chestnut tree that was tucked away in an unpromising section of hedge. Matthew- who was on site doing something else- waved some green stuff at us. "Ground elder, tastes like celery," he said. And so it does. I never knew. Our property is crawling with the stuff.

You'll probably find wild parsnip if you look too. Loads of it around here. The root is edible and you can guess what it tastes like!
