Hats
I lost the hat-band on my old straw hat (actually made of paper) and we were going to spend the afternoon partying in the garden at Mike and Su's so- on our way through Chadwell Heath- we stopped at Tesco's and I bought a new one (actually made of some sort of fabric). Both the old hat and the new hat come from China- as does everything these days- everything affordable, that is.
The new hat has a narrow brim and makes me look like a Bee Gee- or, at least- that's the cultural association that immediately springs to mind- or maybe like Sinatra or Martin or Davis in their Rat Pack days- only none of them wore their hair as long as I do.

I remember as a child noticing "made in Japan" marked on so many things. Maybe it was just on toys, since that was likely my frame of reference. Not sure when that changed from Japan to China, but in so many cases we don't even have a choice any longer.

When I was a kid "Made in Japan" was shorthand for "cheap and shoddy"- but that changed.
