It's Grim Up North

This is one of several little critters who been contemplating Lancaster Prison/Castle for many hundreds of years from a position high up on the south wall of the Priory. They hide in plain sight- camouflaged in soot against the sooty wall from which they emerge- and all seem glum- as if profoundly disenchanted with the view...



Here's another- clearly a relative of Dobby the House Elf. I find them hard to resist.

Those are rather sadly charming. I see what you mean about the darkness of Lancaster; it shows, somehow.

I helped that I was taking my photographs on a dreary, overcast day. I don't know what the place would look like in sunshine- but something like a skull with lipstick on, I fancy.
