On The Day Notre Dame Burned

I made myself a sort of a promise at the beginning of the year that'd I'd write something in the blog every day. It wasn't exactly a New Year's Resolution but I've kept it better than I've ever kept one of those. That's really the only reason I'm writing this- to keep faith with myself and to ensure there's no blank space in the calendar. I've been running with grandchildren for two days now and I've (a) much too much to say and (b) no energy left for saying it.

I see Notre Dame de Paris is on fire. I wonder what it means. It must mean something. Great historic buildings don't just combust randomly.

What I've seen so far suggests that the renovation process involved something that accidentally started the fire. Apparently church renovations not uncommonly cause fires.

Yup. And of course the conspiracy buffs were out in force as soon as the news spread. I trust they'll turn out to be completely off-base, because if any evidence of arson turns up it could get very ugly very quickly.
