Mystery Caller

We're used to hearing owls, but the last couple of nights there has been something else out there in the garden- a bird with a hard, harsh, clucking call. We had no idea what it was.

This morning it disclosed itself. It was a pheasant. It was moving round the bird feeder with pouncing steps but in ultra slow motion- as if performing some ever so important court ritual.

I'm hoping it'll return. I saw it this morning, at a distance, sitting on a neighbour's fence.
