The Burton Tomb, St Leonards
James Burton, founder of St Leonards, is buried- with members of his family- under a pyramid in the small churchyard on the cliff above the parish church.

It's a grand spot to be buried in. Sadly the local dogs use the graveyard as a toilet. Most disrespectful.

That's a fascinating tomb! Do you know why it has the shape it does?

My best guess- and its only a guess- is that James Burton was a freemason. Pyramids feature prominently in Masonic symbology.

I just called him over to look at it, and he said it's Masonic --- but he can't discuss the details.

Well, no. Or, rather, only if you listen to their publicity agents. *grin*
