Whenever I go to Bexhill- and especially in high summer- I'm always shocked by the intensity of the light. Between visits I dial it down in my memory- and then we return and drive out onto the coast road and I'm dazzled all over again. Margate's the same- and what the two places have in common is there are no cliffs- and so there's more sky for the sea to mirror. I love Hastings, but Hastings has cliffs and the light is never as bright.
This picture was shot on the West Parade, now apparently renamed Next Wave- and why not? The cupola belongs to the colonnade which was built to celebrate the coronation of George V in 1911. The water feature draws little kids like sugar draws flies.
