Bees

There are honey bees and there are bumble bees- and that's really all I knew.

But I've been reading up on the subject and now I know a lot more.

For example: there are over 250 types of bee in the UK.

Another thing: Bees are descended from wasps.

And another: Most types of bee are solitary. It's only the honey bee that lives in huge colonies.

And another: All bees are pollinators but only the honey bee and a few types of bumble bee make honey.

And yet another: Some bees are "cuckoos" laying their eggs in the nests of other bees just as the cuckoo does.

Yup!

Fascinating and vital creatures, bees and we've been noticing so many of the varieties locally as many like woodland.
