I'd have been going in close where that lower branch got cut, but then, you know me and detail! :o)

I could have done with more time. We arrived late morning- and had half an hour before my daughter and her family joined us. This also happened to be the only period of the day when the sun came out.

What a magnificent tree!

It's been there since at least 1838- because it's marked on a map of that date- and could have been there much longer. It was probably planted in the 1740s when the house was rebuilt in its present form.

That wouldn't surprise me; they're very long-lived trees and they get huge with age. This one is a good big specimen.
