Richard Dawson

The sun is shining and I've just discovered the work of Richard Dawson- in particular tracks off his 2017 album Peasant. People in  medieval costume with mud on their faces dancing round a bonfire (the video to his song "Ogre) is entirely my sort of thing. He says he's influenced by the Sufis (not the band, the Islamic sect) and Mike Waterson- and the music is in the folk tradition (he's from Newcastle) but keeps doing spiky, odd, unexpected things. His prime instrument is a cheap acoustic guitar with nylon strings which sounded better after he broke it and put it back together again- which reads like a parable of all he's trying to do.

He sounds great. I'll listen to him. Thanks!
