Looking Back At Christmas

poliphiloMy daughter lives in Leicester, my eldest son in Romford and my youngest son in a village near Preston, Ailz and I are in Kent and the children's mother in Highgate. Highgate is the closest this scattering has to a centre so that's where we congregate on feast days. Also my ex-wife's partner is a wonderful cook.
We've been up to Highgate twice over this Christmas season. Once because a daughter-in-law and grandchild were staying over and once because my daughter and her family were. The last time absolutely everybody got together was the summer of 16- or was it the summer of 15? Anyway it's a rare occurrence.
Christmas Day itself we spent here- with my sister and brother-in-law. Ailz cooked dinner. Dr Who was fun. We will spend much of next year wondering where Jodie Whittaker's free-falling Doctor is going to land.
It's been a wonderful Christmas. Emotional. It makes all the difference to have children in the family who are old enough to know what's going on.
And now it's snowing. It won't settle; the ground's too wet. It rained through the night and the front path is under water. There's a high wind blowing- moaning and soughing and doing railway-train impressions....
