 Maybe it's because I was born in the '50s when we still had an empire (just about) and everything was made of boiler plate but it disappoints me when recently purchased electrical goods- sets of headphones for instance- stop working after a few weeks use....

I was born in 1981 and planned obsolescence makes me angry, especially when it is so flagrantly short-lived. Things should last. That's the point.

Planned obsolescence is wasteful of resources, disrespectful to purchaser and manufacturer (because who can take pride in producing junk?) and destructive of an environment which has somehow to accommodate all the tons of stuff we throw away.
