Yachts

No, I don't get yachts.

I've been on boats; they're cramped and constricting; even big boats are. I like to be able to step out the front door and go for walks; and you can't do that with a boat.  Living on a luxury yacht must be like being confined to a luxury hotel- one that, furthermore, is liable to roll from side to side and bump up and down.

And yet yachts are seen as the ultimate status symbol...

Ugh. I am biased, because I suffer from terrible seasickness even on lake ferries... but I never understood the hype around yachts, cruises and such. What is so exquisite in doing stuff on water which you'd find cramped and uncomfortable on firm land? No idea.

My parents went through a phase of messing about in boats. I hated it- and had as little to do with their hobby as I possibly could.

I get the IDEA of a yacht - being able to bring your home with you wherever you want to go, so you can travel without having to pack - but the reality is less appealing.

I do have to say that I kind of get yachts, not necessarily to live on long-term, but I am passionate about the sea and don't mind being comfortable while on it either.

I love the sea- but as something to look at from dry land. I've no wish to be out on it.
