Great Grandmother And Great Grandson.

Our nephew and his family swung by today. My mother doesn't know who the children are but is surprisingly good with them. The middle child- the six year old- the one who never stops- was filling her lap with plastic fish and crustaceans and she was playing along.

"What's this?" She asks, not because she's testing him but because she really doesn't know.

"A puffer fish."

"A cuttle-fish?"

"No, a puffer fish."

He's not at all in awe of her- or indeed the least bit respectful. He talks to her child to child.

I think it's rather lovely that your nephew realizes how to talk to your mother on his own level. Children are far more perceptive than we think they are.

Kids are all there; it's just that they're still learning to use their brains and bodies.

Kids know and those of us who get to grow up don't.

Simple as that :o)

Growing up is over-rated.

Remember the fuss about the Top Gear guy saying he couldn't eat ice cream because he's a big, hetero man? That was sad. If being grown-up means giving up innocent pleasures it's a shame.

I don't know where that programme ever got hold of such a bunch of morons to front it.

Raymond Baxter must be turning in his grave!

I've never followed it. I don't drive- and cars don't interest me much. So long as they get me from place to place without major hiccups I'm happy.

I prefer things with two wheels as you know and know more about them than this sort of blokey type ever will (although he'll always assume he knows more than me-there are so many things where blokes assume that)!

I doubt that anyone, male or female, knows less about motorized vehicles than I do. :)
