Very Comfortable

My mother doesn't want to get up this morning.

"I'm very comfortable," she says. "Do I have to?"

I rummage round for compelling rejoinders and can't find any.

So I leave her in bed.

She's 95, she sits around all day doing nothing, she doesn't understand the world (if she ever did- if any of us ever do) and her one remaining pleasure is food, though she never knows what she's eating.

Sweet dreams....

Spending a day in bed doesn't seem like a bad thing if that's what one feels like and there are no other obligations to take into account.

As long as she's comfortable, who are the rest of us to judge, right?

Exactly.

If anyone is entitled to a lie in, it's someone's 95 year old mum!

Right!

At 95 she has earned the right to stay in bed if she chooses.

I think she probably has.
