The Turning Of The Seasons

Weatherwise it was rather a splendid summer- with a final run of golden days at the beginning of September- but I think we can consider it done with now. The temperature has fallen dramatically, we've been having rain and lively winds and the leaves are coming off the trees. The official beginning of autumn- the equinox- is still four days off, but that's a technicality. For months now I've been sleeping without covers, or at most a sheet covering my feet, but last night I had the duvet pulled right up.

I have yet to get the duvet out - but change is in the air.

And I will welcome autumn; it is one of my favourite times of the year. So full of bounty and riches. Apples, grapes, elderberries, blackberries, beets, plums, nuts... It's the culmination of the growing season!

I've enjoyed this summer, but- yes- autumn is good too.

Oh, there's no doubt that I've enjoyed this late summer weather - sitting in my undies in the garden in the middle of September and sweating was rather wonderful after a July where I occasionally had to fire up the wood burner...

But I'm ready for the duvet, the wood burner and woolly blankets! Bring it on...

Unfortunately i think you are right.

But it could turn out to be a lovely autumn. Who knows!

Yes, duvet season definitely!

We've had such a fine long summer that we've all started taking the sun for granted... It'll take a month or two of rain for us to get back into the swing of things.

We have four doors to the outside world- a front door, a back door and two sliding doors that give on the patio- and they've been standing open most days this summer; today they're all closed- and I don't like it.
