The Turning Of The Seasons
Weatherwise it was rather a splendid summer- with a final run of golden days at the beginning of September- but I think we can consider it done with now. The temperature has fallen dramatically, we've been having rain and lively winds and the leaves are coming off the trees. The official beginning of autumn- the equinox- is still four days off, but that's a technicality. For months now I've been sleeping without covers, or at most a sheet covering my feet, but last night I had the duvet pulled right up.

And I will welcome autumn; it is one of my favourite times of the year. So full of bounty and riches. Apples, grapes, elderberries, blackberries, beets, plums, nuts... It's the culmination of the growing season!

We've had such a fine long summer that we've all started taking the sun for granted... It'll take a month or two of rain for us to get back into the swing of things.
