One Man Exhibition

I dreamed someone had arranged an exhibition of my artwork without my knowledge. "But have you included any of my abstracts?" I asked- and they hadn't- so I got busy selecting some for last minute inclusion. The Queen attended the opening- and I was trying to explain my sources of inspiration to her- with little success. (I wonder whether Cromwell got tongue-tied when talking to Charles I?) By this stage I was beginning to wonder whether everything on display was actually mine...

Did I really paint all those pictures of trolls?

Perhaps I will.

I'm not sure the Queen is really all that interested in art, so perhaps your time was wasted trying to explain your artwork to her... (Well, she might like paintings of horses and corgies.)

The last British Royals to care about the arts were Victoria and Albert. Their taste may have run to Landseer and Winterhalter and Scottish baronial architecture- stuff we don't much care for these days- but the enthusiasm was real, not feigned. And Albert also collected Italian "primitives".

A strange dream.
