Cameron was booked to attend some sort of military thingy yesterday- and he's still Prime Minister in name so he showed up at it and stood on a rostrum in his suit while lots of soldiers marched past saluting. It was really rather sad.

Apparently there's a petition out there with 2 million names on it demanding that the referendum should be re-run because- oh- something specious. Apparently 2 million of our fellow citizens don't get how democracy works.

If Johnson becomes PM his endearing schtick- part Bertie Wooster, part Mr Tumble- will become unendearing very, very quickly.

Yes, it's a crisis, but we've had them before.

By the way, have you noticed how- as far as the media is concerned- all the world's other crises have gone into abeyance?

Yeah well, england's self-indulgent referendum tantrum has wiped billions off global markets, jeopardised the EU, raised the spectre of a new war in Northern Ireland in short order and emboldened the far right worldwide. Not to mention putting my family at risk. So yes, actually, it is a global crisis and should be in the news. Thanks for nothing.

That's right. All other construction yards in the world have pretty much disappeared out of the conventional media coverage currently. Well, for the EU it's understandable, it's something of their business. What the US media do, I don't know.
(But I'm happy to have turned away from Western media coverage in this country - so you get a few other topics also before your eyes.)

I gather the US approves of the EU because it acts as a buffer against Russia. Obama told us we'd be punished if we exited but now he's saying to forget all that because we're still the best of friends.

More likely two million of your countrymen understand very well that you have a representative government, not a democracy, which is just as well -- it's a buffer against mob driven stuff.

I think there may have been an element of that. The Remain camp had lots of outsiders- including Obama- lecture us on the matter- and it was resented.

I wasn't in favour of there being a referendum- and think Cameron was stupid to call one- but now it's happened I think the result should be respected.

I think the two things are related. There is widespread disgust with the political status quo. Brexit and Trump are symptoms of the same malaise.

Europe's ability to act collectively on the war in Syria has been massively damaged by this dangerous action. Which is not to say that it has done so competently in the past, but it sure as hell is going to be worse now now. If England thinks it's such a leading world power anyway, surely it is right that there's nothing else in the world news?
