1. Today marks the third anniversary of us moving in with my mother. In the interim we've sold our own house and become acclimatised- indeed naturalised- to the South East. None of this was ever part of what I had projected for my old age, but it's all good.

2. We've treated ourselves to the Globe Theatre's "Happy 400th Deathday, Shakey" big box set. It arrived this morning: 21 plays- including some of the less usual ones- like Love's Labours Lost- and one or two legendary productions like the all-star Twelfth Night with Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry.

3. It was my daughter who reminded me about kids liking postcards. So now I've got the habit: go somewhere cool, buy cards, send to grandchildren. We were at Herstmonceux Castle yesterday- and today I wrote and posted the cards. I remember it's something my own grandparents doing. My grandfather took lots of exotic business trips and most of his cards had aeroplanes on them; I suppose he bought them at the airport. I received so many- one way and another- I was given an album to keep them in.

I wish I'd bought the Globe box set. But when I bought the first few plays I didn't realise quite how good they were going to be be!

I loved my postcard collection as a child.

If you ever find that album of aeroplane postcards, and want a good home for it...

I love writing postcards. It's an essential part of every holiday.

I don't suppose everything in the box set is going to be pure gold, but we'll see...

I don't have the album any longer because it fell to pieces but I think I still have a few of the postcards that were in it.

I'm afraid the album fell to pieces long ago but I may still have a few of the cards.

Not just kids, my favorite professors send me postcards! Your grandkids will remember and someday tell their grandkids.

Postcards are fun. It looked for a while as if email and twitter and all those things might kill them off- but it hasn't happened yet.

I'm impressed by how high-powered your grandfather must have been to have all those business trips by air!

It is a great thing to send post cards in our days. I have a big box with postcards from relatives. It looks like greetings from childhood.

He was a director, I think that's the word, of an Anglo-American engineering firm. I think his trips were mainly between London and New York.

The Globe set is pretty darned fabulous. I've watched a dozen plays so far and haven't hit a dud. Maybe I'm lucky...
