poliphiloThe village of West Firle may be at the end of a road that goes nowhere else- except to the great house- but it has a pub that plies a roaring trade- even on weekdays in January- and a celebrity vicar- Peter Owen-Jones- who writes books and does TV and dresses like the 4th Doctor. There may not be any through traffic but a lot of walkers pass this way. It's part of the Owen-Jones legend that he climbs Firle Beacon every day to say his prayers.
The church has a fine window by John Piper. Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell are buried in the churchyard.
