Man-sized In Marble

John Fagge the elder (d 1639) and John Fagge the younger (d 1646) in St Eanswith's church, Brenzett, Romney Marsh

This double tomb is said to have inspired E. Nesbit's horror story "Man-sized in Marble".

A story that is creepy and silly in equal measure. Thanks for sharing the originals!

If I remember right the statues in the story are medieval knights...

Yes, creepy and silly hits the nail on the head. For all its absurdity it's unforgettable.

That title doesn't ring any bells. I'll look it up!

I think you'll find it on the Net. It's much-anthologised.

I'd hate to spend eternity with that guy staring at me.

It's not a comfortable arrangement.

P.S. My name, Grist, is a Romney Marsh name. Lots of Grists buried at Brookland and thereabouts.
