And Then There Were None: Agatha Christie

I watched the first episode of the BBC's new dramatization and then put it aside and read the book instead. I may return to the TV series- if only to see how faithful it remains to the original; as far as I got it was very faithful indeed- with the trifling addition of some modish drugging and strong language.

Clever book. Damn clever book. And not at all cosy or middle-brow- which is what people who don't know Christie suppose her to be. It shares the simplicity and heartlessness of the nursery rhyme it toys with- and is equally unforgettable.

I have the 1945 movie in the queue on my DVR, as well as Murder She Said.

The 1945 version has a good reputation.
