The End Of The Old Chestnut Tree

Very neatly done. They dropped it so it broke nothing else- which was skilful because the corridor was narrow. Now there's the tidying up to do- and a bonfire that'll burn all day.

They're leaving the trunk where it fell- which I'm happy about

Leave some for Guy Fawkes!

As far as I'm concerned this is Guy Fawkes.

Fair enough- it might just last until tomorrow anyway! :o)

I think it will. There's still a hell a lot of wood lying around in the field.

You make it, I'll burn it.

Can you cure any of that and use it as firewood inside the house?
That was a huge tree!

Matthew and his gang are taking the logs. They'll dry them out and use them as firewood. We used to have a wood-burning stove, but not any more.

Wow! That looks like a major operation... Definitely a job for chainsaws!

Oh yes. Two chainsaws in fact. Terrific racket.

Do know how old it was? It saddens me, I confess, to see such a lovely old tree down, but of course you don't want it to fall on structures in the next big storm.

I don't know exactly. I'd guess 70-80 years.

As a fellow tree lover, I offer my condolences on your loss.

I'll miss it.
