A Snatch Of Conversation

Kirstie (looking at a headline story about the death of Cilla Black) That's so sad

Me: No it isn't. She'd had a full life, her career was over, she'd outlived her husband. Time to go.

Kirstie: But she was so young.

Me: She was seventy two. That's old. Why, she was even older than me.

Kirstie: You didn't like her?

Me: Not much. That dating show she did was in the worst possible taste.

Ailz: Snob!

I didn't like her much either, but 72 IS comparitively young, these days - below life expectancy for a woman, at least... I wouldn't describe it as an age where it's 'time to go'.

There's something- indeed quite a lot- to be said for bowing out before the body and mind start falling apart.

I didn't like her show, but friends of mine who worked with her said she was genuinely nice to them and to everyone else working the show. And that counts for a lot.

That's good to hear.

gets al sniffy - 72 is not old - all my forebears lived well into thoer 90s - - that's old - except that none of them appeared old to me ,until their last illnesses appeared
