A Rude Awakening

My mother fell out of bed last night. I heard the crash and the exclamation and the alarm clock beeping and went into her room and found the bedside tables flung about as if there'd been an explosion and my mother lying on the far side of the bed, giggling.

She'd barked her shin. We put a dressing on it and helped her back into bed.

She seems fine this morning.

I like the giggling part. Also the no harm done part. The alarm it must have caused you, though, I don't like very much.

She's always been very good at falling over. She's got the knack of going limp and bouncy.

She takes these sort of things in her stride. It's the spirit of the 1940s I think.

It was an unpleasant moment.

I went to sleep and almost immediately went into a nightmare about someone rushing into the room and tryng to strangle me.

That must have been a good scare but if she was giggling that's a good sign.
Still...not the best way to be awakened, is it?

A day later she appears completely unruffled. She has a history of bouncing back. When she was in her late seventies she fell off a horse- and came away with nothing but bruises.
