Pet Hate

I don't enjoy cooking, but I don't hate it; within my limitations I'm reasonably competent; what I do hate is serving up a meal. It makes me panic- and I fumble, curse, drop and spill. I suppose it's because serving up - unlike cooking- is work one does under observation- and I'm afraid I'm going to make an ass of myself- so I do.

Casseroles is the way to go! Make it in a nice pot that can look good on the table and let people serve themselves!

When I have dinner parties I always serve a dainty starter that I can prepare and serve up in advance (with no on-lookers!), and then the main course and dessert is served in large dishes to be passed around the table so I don't have to worry about them.

That is a good idea.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds serving a meal stressful.

I love serving food, but... I want to be able to prepare it alone! And plating things up in front of others is a no-go for me...

You're watched enough MasterChef - just keep thinking, "they aren't Greg Wallace and John Torode". =:)

Myself, it's likely it'll be something coming straight from the wok, so it'll be arriving ready served from the kitchen. (Which I can guarantee will not be dull in flavors, but my cooking isn't often photogenic, hence the general lack of food photography on my journal)
