My mother sits and watches TV from early afternoon to bedtime. She no longer knows how to work the remote so, unless we switch channels for her, she stays with the same channel all the way through. I went into the living room yesterday and we had this conversation.
My Mother (as if deeply outraged ): I don't know what this is!
Me: It's Pointless.
My Mother: I don't know what that is.
Me: It's a quiz show. You watch it every evening.
My Mother :*goes off into a peal of happy laughter as if to say "Silly me!*
Mostly we tiptoe round her forgetfulness, but perhaps we shouldn't. When I challenge her- as above- it seems to bring her to life (briefly). I don't know. I really don't.

Just say "It's a quiz show". That's enough. If she says "why are we watching it?" then say "you like it. You watch it every day". She'll just say "oh".
This is nothing you can do about it.
