Le Pont Du Nord

Jacques Rivette makes the films I'd make for myself if I had the talent and the wherewithal- films about ghosts, conspiracies, female friendship, Joan of Arc, metaphysics, Balzac, psychogeography. I think he might just be my favourite director. Le Pont du Nord features mother and daughter Bulle and Pascale Ogier as an ex con and an otherworldly, street-fighting Quixote who pursue an ill-defined quest round the streets of Paris. The city is their co-star. As is November.  "It's not a game" people keep saying- as if to convince themselves.

Pascale Ogier died at 25. If you haven't heard of her, that's why.

Why not try Les Amants du Pont Neuf? It is great, I think. I've seen it twice as I wanted Ian to see it.

I've seen it. A long time ago. What I remember is the posters burning in the underground.
