Sourcing A Cat

The lady from Chat (not Celia herself- like Santa she must have lots of helpers) wasn't happy with us having ferals because we couldn't guarantee we'd stay in the property for ten to fifteen years- and if ferals have to be moved they're a pain to catch (tranquilizer darts?)- so I said, well, my wife would prefer a house cat anyway.

She (the lady who isn't Celia) has gone away to see what she's got to offer us,

Well, that seems pretty anal. Don't you have any neighbors with barn cats who might informally drop off a few kittens?

It's odd but this part of the world seems to be cat-free zone.

I know why they do that... they don't want more abandoned cats. However, like lblanchard pointed out, there are always barn cats.

However, maybe it would be nice for your wife to have a cat to enjoy. (me, being a fan of cats, would say that, even if you, not a fan of cats, would not) :-)

A cat will make Ailz happy. And if it's a sleepy old house cat it will still deter rats- simply by being around- and won't be killing the birds- which is something I have against cats in general

An indoor cat is lovely!

Yes, I'm happy enough. I think my mother might take to it too. She's an animal lover, but she's never had cats before- just dogs and horses.

Well gosh. I'm sorry they won't place a feral with you- I'd jump at the placement. Hell, I'd mail you one of my fosters, except they're permanent residents now because they're too neurotic to place. Unless you want a neurotic cat, in which case I'll start licking stamps.

Anyway. I hope you get a good kitty companion, and that it deters the rodents.

We could always have gone somewhere else. There are other
charities. In a way I'm impressed she's so finicky.

Actually, there are ferals and there are ferals. Some are pretty people friendly and wouldn't be especially hard to catch, but otherwise there are humane traps and any good feral rescue or spay/neuter project ought to have those.
