Rats And Cats

Here I am trying to simplify my life and along come things to complicate it.

Rats for instance.

Ailz bought the rodent repeller and we've had it squweaking for 24 hours. I think it's having an effect.

And then Matthew turned up and he and Julia had their terriers rummaging through the undergrowth. Something fled like an arrow.

So I squared up to Ailz and said, "Look, you know you want a cat and if you push for it now I'm not going to put up any resistance. If I were you I'd move while I had the chance."

So tomorrow lunchtime someone from Celia Hammond's Animal Trust (CHAT) is going to come and check us out with a view to rehoming a couple of her ferals. Perhaps it'll be Celia herself (swoon).

I'm not a cat fancier, but if they have to exist they might as well earn their keep. We have a few semi-ferals in the neighborhood, but they don't do much for the rat population.

I'm not big on cats but I think they could be what we need to restore the balance of nature. As Matthew was saying this place would have had all sorts of livestock attached- including dogs and cats- in the days when it was a working farm.

Eeeeeee!!

(Mostly re cat, though I concede meeting Celia Hammond would be quite exciting too.)

I don't suppose I should get my hopes up- about Celia I mean.

TBH, the only thing I know about her other than the cat trust is that Donovan wrote 'Celia of the Seals' about her. But that's worth a fair number of cool points in my book.

She's had an eventful life.

Cats would have been my suggestion. They are the best, IMHO. But, get rid of that sonic thing if you do. That can actually damage a cat's hearing, which makes them less effective as hunters.

These won't be house cats- at least I don't think so. They'll be true ferals- otherwise unhomeable- who'll live in the outbuildings and not want to have anything much to do with us.

Right. Nature's most efficient killing machines. (And, also, the funniest). Cats are even better at hunting than they are laying about being fed, although most of them hate to admit it.

We went through a phase of cat ownership. It furnished us with a great stock of amusing stories.
