There was a ghost in the Tandoori restaurant, flickering about behind Ailz's left shoulder. "I think it's a woman," she said, "by the hair.
It seemed to keep traversing the same few feet of floor. "She's a Victorian shopkeeper," I opined, "Coming out of an inner room to greet her customers."

How exciting. But why would a ghost do that? Can't leave the shop for the next life?

There are different sorts of ghost. Some are bona fide earthbound spirits, but many are just recordings of past events that have somehow become fixed in a certain place. I supect our ghost was one of the latter kind.

I feel that one in my bones, working the gallery... the front door chimes. I begin the fight of responsibility and self discipline vs. painting hyperfocus, to put down my paintbrush and go greet the guest.

I win or lose the fight. If I lose, I get to keep painting.

If I win, I trudge the hallway through gallery 2 up to gallery 1 to greet someone(s) who either expect and want to be greeted and *to whom I will need to speak*, or really hate being greeted and I get hit with a wave of that!

It's the kind of persistent sequential double bind experience that is bound to lead to a recording. :)

I've never been in that situation but you've made me feel how it would be- the constant switching between modes of being...

So no one's really there, it's just like watching a clip from a movie. That's a bit sad.

Something like that.

But some hauntings do involve real people who have either failed to move on or chosen not to.
