Guy Fawkes Night

Half eight- and I've just realised I haven't heard any fireworks for a couple of hours- and then there was only the one. I know it's mid-week, but still...

I had my own bonfire a couple of days ago. The wood from the greenhouse was so saturated I hardly expected it to catch but there was a lot of plastic in there as well and- whoosh!

Plenty of bangs in Bristol all last night - just as a data point.

We're quite a long way from any large centre of population.

We had fireworks going off the whole time from about half-five until well after ten... The poor dog was a nervous wreck.

I'm afraid that as I get older, I forget how much I loved fireworks as a child, and become more and more prune-faced and puritanical and killjoy, wanting to ban the things except in organised displays.

I don't have much enthusiasm for them either.

Been there, done that...

But I still enjoy a good bonfire.

Oh yes... A bonfire is something altogether different.

I wish we had a terrorist appreciation day.
