We have this new habit. Every Saturday we go into Manchester and have lunch at a place called the Shalimar. They do a really good curry and it's cheap.

It's nice to have habits. They're comforting things. If we didn't show up one week we'd be missed. A sense of obligation has been created. We validate the Shalimar and the Shalimar validates us.

I miss curry. When I lived in DC/Chicago/Houston, I ate Indian at least once a week. Now I live in the back of beyond, nothing available. I can cook it, but that's not the same.

Curry is my favourite food.

They did some sort of a survey a few years back (counted restaurants or something) and decided that curry has become the English National Dish.

I love having one restaurant where I'm known and valued. Where when you go in, they know what table you like and what you are probably going to be drinking and they are glad to see you. I do miss good Indian food in this town, so perhaps when I'm up in Stockholm next week-end, I can talk my friends into finding Indian for lunch. That way, my vegetarian friend can be easily accommodated as well.

It's fun to think about you and Ailz going out on Saturdays to have curry. It makes me smile.

Could you take a photograph of the restaurant for us?

They know us so well that they no longer bring us the menu. I've eaten my way through all the vegetarian curries and have have long since decided which one I like best.

Next time we're down there I'll take a shot of the exterior.

Yes! You said that perfectly. There are so many people who seem to think that any kind of habit is inherently boring, if not actually wrong somehow, and to be avoided. They dread the "rut" and engage in change for the sake of change. Which, to me, is just as bad as refusing to ever try something new. Some change is good, some habits are good. *stops before I go into a full blown rant* *laugh*

The older you get, the more pleasure you take in a good rut.

(I tried to avoid the double entendre, honest, I did)

Everyone has to have that one place where they're expected ... it makes all the rest of the change in the world that much easier to handle. :)
