So...

...The likelihood is that Mrs B has herself been predated- or knocked down on the road. There's nothing we can do for the chicks; they're too far gone.

Living out in the country soon disabuses you of the lolcat view of nature.

It does, doesn't it? When I had my house out on the Lake, I came to that conclusion. Much of it was really incredibly beautiful.... but it was a terrible beauty. Yes, we occasionally had deer in the yard. And, once, we had a dead deer was up onto our beach... which decomposed VERY quickly, between the vultures and the maggots. We had these adorable bunnies in the yard... and, almost daily, carnage. I am of the mind that everyone should spend some time of their life in the country, and get this dose of horrific bliss.

I understand that over 90% of all bunnies fail to make adulthood.

The Natural World is terrifying- an endless cycle of eating and being eaten.
