Butterflies

Last year the buddleia swarmed with red admirals and peacocks and tortoiseshells; this year I'm seeing hardly any of the more colourful butterflies around it- just flies and bees.

I'm still seeing a lot of tortoiseshells here, and the odd peacock. Given how much buddleia grows wild in the city, I wonder whether they're to be found more out in the edgelands now.

Perhaps.

I'm glad you're seeing them. I'd like to think their non-appearance here is just some sort of local aberration.

Good news!

I was dive-bombed by a Red Admiral in our minuscule back garden yesterday.

A fair little selection hereabouts, I'm pleased to say, though I haven't spent much time at all with them photographically. Probably no exotic species, though I barely know any anyway.

They remain quite enchanting to watch, fluttering from one spot to another, in that chaotic, yet meaningful, fashion. And then come the occasional attempts at securing a mate, wherein two perform that dance around each other..
