X Men 2 is expensive tosh.

Well of course it is. And, to be fair, it's not absolute rubbish; it doesn't stink. But it's formulaic and humourless, the characters are underwritten, it doesn't have a point of view. The BBC's Doctor Who, which inhabits the same sort of territory, beats it, hands down, in every department.

The more money at stake, the safer, dumber, less flavoursome the script.

And what a waste of Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Brian Cox. Here they are, mincing about in front of blue screens, mouthing tripe, when they should be doing King Lear.

Cox as the King, Stewart as Gloucester, McKellen as the Fool.

Halle Berry as Cordelia.

Wouldn't that be worth watching!

Talking about Dr Who, I see that David Tennant, who has just finished being Casanova, has been confirmed as the next Doctor. This makes me very happy.

Perhaps waiting for Godot would be more appropriate.

Love your casting, I'd pay big money to see that.

I have enjoyed both of the X-Men movies. But then, I grew up reading the comics, so perhaps that colours my perceptions. Sure, I have some problems with certain things, but overall, I find them fun to watch.

I still remember Stewart's performance in I, Claudius with fond affection.
