The Drive Home

Home again if this is home and sometimes I doubt it.

We ran through the discography of The Young Tradition in the car. They're new to us- we came to them by way of Peter Bellamy- and they're good- but I can see why Bellamy wanted out and eventually looked back in anger. The work starts off raw- the way he liked it- and gets progressively sweeter and softer. Their best album is the recording (which they knew nothing about at the time) of the gig they did at Oberlin. It's a real romper stomper.

We set off early, stopped for lunch at the Trentham Gardens Estate in Stoke and arrived back before three.

God, but this house is cold.

I was born and raised not 300 yards from Trentham Gardens. It's changed a lot.

Well I never.

We wound up there by chance. We were hungry, we came off the motorway just south of Stoke, turned right- and there it was.

How come it's taken you so long to discover YT?

I really don't know. I can't account for it.

I see Heather Wood fairly frequently: she comes to Mystic Seaport to be the Elder Statesman/ Goddess of the Sea Music Festival. Long may she wave!
