It was like I'd stripped an old canvas of its varnish and over-paint and the original picture turned out to be a wreck.

I was looking for the real me under the layers of medication and I found it and it hurt like buggery- especially on my left hand side from the hip downwards. I slept for about an hour last night- in fits and starts- so I've given in and I'm taking codeine again, as prescribed.

Phew......

Do try to maybe slowly diminuish the codeine and substitute it with ibuprofen. Not all of it, just parts. So you can judge better if something changes!

Perhaps. But I think I need to return to an even keel before I try any more experiments. :)

I did try taking ibuprofen yesterday. It didn't have any effect.

Whatever gets you through the night and hooray for modern pain relief, I say. Healthier than drinking yourself silly and dying young, like they did in the olden days.

If you are taking it for arthritis, under medical supervision, you take much higher doses of ibuprofen - but you must take them after a meal, milky drink or chunk of cheese.

It might be worth exploring this later, or taking a codeine holiday once in a while. The good thing about NSAIDs like ibuprofen is that you don't build up a tolerance to them.

Have you tried tramadol? I mainly suffer at night because of the comparative immobilty - I am alright when I am pottering about - and if I am having a bad night tramadol knock me out and make all droopy and happy and stoned. I also take them at tiresome social events, as they render me able to suffer fools comparatively gladly, but don't tell anyone that.

I don't believe I've done tramadol, but it sounds like I could use it once in a while.

Yes, ibufrofen messes with the stomach lining, I believe.

Yes, but the drinking may have been more fun- while it lasted.

If you need it you need it.

I can't even think of the results if I ever had to come off HRT!

Would some form of Ibuprofen be better for you?

Okay should have read the other comments first, so HRT might be an option.

Well, I'm sorry the experiment didn't work out. It was worth a try, I guess.

Yes.

I hate being dependent on anything, but there it is.
