So all the modern Doctors will have to budge up a place. Nine becomes Ten, Ten becomes Eleven, Eleven becomes Twelve and Peter Capaldi-of whom we caught a brief, all but subliminal, glimpse last night- eyes blazing like an angry bird's- will be Thirteen.

I'm assuming Hurt's Doctor will now have acquired canonical status. He'd better had. He was lovely. A sad, quiet Doctor.

Moffat has frequently disappointed me, but you can't accuse him of holding back or playing safe. He has written some of the best episodes in the show's history and last night's took its place among them.  It went for broke. It was funny, brain-achingly clever, spectacular, silly and moving. It was great to have Tennant back. And Piper. And the unheralded, unexpected guest.

Yes! I loved it too. John Hurt has always been one of my favorite actors. I wish that BBC America hadn't clogged the episode with so many commercials, though.

Yet to watch as i was DJing in Brighton last and arrived back today - but will do so later on. I look forward to the experience.

I felt a little let down, but that may be because it was breathlessly overhyped on Teh Facebooks. Worse yet, my friends, knowing of my interest, shared every little tidbit they ran across.

Still, I'm going to see it in a movie theater tomorrow night. The unheralded guest (assuming you mean that person who turned up toward the end to offer some avuncular advice) was mentioned but not terribly hyped in the run-up.

I didn't hear a single rumour about Tom Baker's involvement. On the contrary, the word was that none of the "old" Doctors had been asked to take part.

I'm on several fan list on Teh Facebooks, and one included an interview with him.

I found this to be an excellent review. I'm looking forward to seeing it again tonight, on the big screen.

I think we talked about this on Teh Elsenets. The simulcast was commercial free. The rebroadcast, not so much.

Baker let the cat out of the bag himself? Bet Moffat was peeved!

Yes, that's a good review. Thanks for the link.

I think the cat was out of the bag before that. Edited to add:

But I think I saw it earlier, as well.
