Village Gossip

Mary dropped by yesterday afternoon, full of chat. I made a pot of tea and retired to another room. It's not that I dislike Mary, because I don't, but I needed a quarter of an hour to adjust to the increase in the noise level. Otherwise I'd have had a panic attack and- quite possibly- said something unforgivably rude.

She wanted to talk about Miss Mills.

"You know Miss Mills. You must do."

"No," said my mother.

Mary told her anyway.

Ah, it's not really about anything important, is it, it's about spreading the "news". Should have offered her a bowl of cream.

So important I completely forget what the story was...

I dislike it TREMENDOUSLY when people just 'drop by'. You find cell phones incredibly intrusive, I find the Dropping By-ers thus so.

The neighbours here are in the habit of dropping by without warning. It's the culture, I suppose.

They have been doing it that way for thousands of years. Still, it drives me nuts. If I want to "drop in", I do it on the internet.

Friends dropping by. Thankfully that just doesn't happen here all that much! I never deal that well with it...

It's not that I'm antisocial (far from it), but my home is my castle and all that...

Love this:

Hahahahahaha.

(hugs)

Thanks.

I guess it's the culture out here in the country.

Back home- in Oldham- the neighbours only drop by when they've got business to transact- which is fine.

It reminds one of "The Archers".

I detest The Archers.
